Final Thoughts

The internship program has given me the opportunity to experience the medical field up close and understand the reality behind it. As a high school senior, it is a bit nerve-wracking choosing a career that is going to stick with me for my entire life. Going into this program, I knew that I wanted to study surgery, but this experience allowed me to feel confident in my decision and excited to begin a career I feel so passionately about.

During my time at AFC Urgent Care, I have been able to network with many medical assistants, doctors, and anyone else who was willing to help me reach my goal of becoming a surgeon. This truly was a wonderful experience and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.

A few weeks after starting my first internship, I started my second internship with Mrs. Vaccaro in Becton's Media Center. I organized magazines, filed paperwork, and assisted students and teachers with printing and using the software. Overall, I gained valuable organizational, communication, and business skills.

My overall internship experience was one that I will look back at and smile at all the amazing people I got to work with and make memories with. I am proud to announce that I will be attending Bergen Community College Majoring in Biology. Thank you everyone!

Final Week :(

This was the last week of internship. The last week was the same as every other week except for the last day at Urgent Care. The last day of Urgent Care I brought cupcakes in to say goodbye to everyone. For the last day in the Media Center, I did not bring in anything because I will get to see the staff until I graduate.

Short Week

This week was a short week; I did not go to Urgent Care two days this week so for the only day I did go I filed important paperwork. In the Media Center, I assisted with school play materials, ran errands, and helped the Main Office.

Always Assisting

In the Media Center, I spent a lot of time organizing the magazines. At Urgent Care, I called in patients and took their blood pressure and temperature and checked their oxygen and pulse. Whatever the doctor asks a medical assistant to do, I help by completing that task for them if they are busy.

Help All Around

This week was very crazy. It was busy in both the Media Center and at Urgent Care. There was a lot to do and a lot of people to see and treat. There were many sick people that came in with cold like symptoms. In the Media Center there were a lot of kids that needed my help printing.

End of Flu Season

This week at the Urgent Care was calm. We did not get a lot of sick people. While we did get some sick people come through the doors, there were times with no patients. At the end of flu season people don't come in as much as much or as often like at the beginning of flu season. Bad for business, but good for people!

What a Frenzy!

This week was busy at both the Media Center and at Urgent Care. There were a lot of classes that came in to work on their research papers and needed my help with printing, finding books, or checking books out. They keep me on me toes. At Urgent Care they were packed with sick people that needed to see the doctor. They had me running all over the place to help the doctor or one of the medical assistants. I enjoy keeping busy and feeling helpful!

During the past few weeks in the Media Center I have been helping Ms.Vaccaro with some basic work. I also helped the main office with their work as well. The main office really appreciates me helping with their everyday tasks.

The Business Side of Urgent Care

For the past two weeks at Urgent Care I have been learning how to file paper work, sort through paper work, and more business related things. There is lot of paperwork that is involved with owning a business so it is important for me to see that side.

A Little Bit of Everything

This week I put away magazines, helped Mrs. Melchonne with attendance, and helped Ms. Vaccaro with school play documents. In school it is research paper time so everyone needs help printing articles for their research papers so I was a big help. I also helped students print their final semester projects for the marking period. After helping Mrs. Cannarozzi's class with printing she got them all to thank me for helping them print which made me very happy.

Hectic Week at AFC Urgent Care

This week at Urgent Care was the busiest week I have seen since I've been here. One day this week we had to call in a second doctor to help see patients. What I did this week was help get the patients ready to see the doctor, help do lab tests, and call in patients. This week I was told I am allowed to start making phone calls to the patients to see how they are feeling after their visit at the Urgent Care.

Calm Week in the Media Center

This week was very quiet and was not busy at all so I sat down with my mentor Ms. Vaccaro and interviewed her and asked her 12 questions to get to know her a little bit more. I learned a lot about her and her career path. Other than interviewing Ms. Vaccaro, I also put  magazines away, delivered some papers and much more. I also spent time helping out Mrs. Melchionne with the attendance.

Quiet Medical Week

This week was very quiet; there was not much going on at AFC Urgent Care. So I decided to interview one of the medical attendants, Sterling. While I was interviewing him, I learned a lot I didn't know before. Some things I did not know was that he majored in criminal justice in college. He wanted to be a police officer. What made him go into the medical field was his love for helping others.

Media Frenzy!

It is always busy in the media center. This week I worked with Ms.Vaccaro and Mrs. Melchionne. To summarize, I have been scanning each student's ID at lunch, helping each student print, organizing the magazines, typing various documents, and much more. Whatever anyone needs to get done they can always count on me to get the job done right. I have become like an assistant to many here at Becton.

Hectic Week before Christmas!

This week, I did my normal routine at AFC Urgent Care. What my normal week consists of is taking patient vitals which include blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen level, and lastly height and weight. This week I worked with Amanda, V, Sabrina and. I have been watching the staff run strep tests, urinalysis, and drug screens. During this hectic week I had time to sit down and get some one-on-one time with the nurses and get some hands on learning experience. While working with a patient I would introduce myself like this:  Hi, my name is Adriana. I'm the intern here. Do you mind if I stay in the room? Once I get their consent I stay and let the nurses get the information they need. Then I take their blood pressure, oxygen levels, pulse, and lastly their height and weight.
